ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION:
The International Criminal Justice Initiative (ICJI) at Georgetown University serves as the lead implementer of the Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group (ACA), a multilateral initiative established by the European Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Together with its ACA partners, ICJI provides strategic guidance, technical assistance, and expert mentoring to Ukrainian prosecutors and investigators working to ensure accountability for atrocity crimes committed in the context of the Russian Federation’s full-scale aggression.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an entry-level position supporting the ICJI/ACA team in Ukraine. The Junior Legal Adviser will assist senior experts by providing basic legal research and administrative support for work with the Office of the General Prosecutor of Ukraine (OPG) and other justice sector institutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in legal research related to Ukrainian criminal law and international humanitarian law.
- Support preparation of materials, reports, and project documentation.
- Help organize meetings and liaise with institutional stakeholders.
- Collect and compile publicly available information relevant to accountability efforts.
- Support senior legal advisers as needed in analytical and administrative tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIRED)
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (recent graduate or final-year student accepted).
- Basic understanding of Ukrainian criminal law and interest in international law.
- Strong motivation to learn and contribute to justice and accountability work.
- Ability to work responsibly with sensitive information.
- Good written and spoken command of Ukrainian and English.
DESIRABLE (AN ADVANTAGE BUT NOT REQUIRED)
- Master degree, PhD student
- Previous internship or academic focus related to criminal law, human rights, or international law.
- Familiarity with the Ukrainian justice system or work/volunteering experience in legal/public institutions.
- Knowledge of Russian.
