Under the general supervision and guidance of NOC Social Policy Specialist (Inclusive Social Protection), the Social Policy Officer (Social Protection Data) engages in social protection data analyses and presentation. Specifically, the Social Policy Officer (Social Protection Data) supports UNICEF’s social protection programme and relevant partners with analyses of data related to child poverty and vulnerabilities, social protection cash programmes, demographics etc. and makes data accessible for programmatic use.

How can you make a difference?

The Social Policy Officer (Social Protection Data) performs the following:

  • Supports the development of indicators for poverty reduction/social protection programme monitoring
  • Collects or compiles the necessary data from various sources, including from government data bases
  • Works closely with colleagues across UNICEF on sectoral data compilation and analyses to help present data on children’s vulnerabilities
  • Works closely with technical team in relevant government institutions on data collection, compilation and presentation
  • Contributes to evidence generation on child poverty and social protection through proposing data collection templates, questionnaires, reporting templates etc.
  • Contributes to internal programme monitoring and third-party monitoring for social protection interventions
  • Makes child poverty and social protection related data accessible to UNICEF and its partners using various tools and methods of data presentation (data visualization and dashboards)
  • Provides regular updates on data related to child poverty and social protection
  • Provides support to implementation of UNICEF’s humanitarian cash transfer programme

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

a) Education:

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: Social Sciences, Data Science, Computer Science or another relevant field.
  • Proficiency in statistics and statistical packages like Excel, SPSS, SAS etc.

b) Experience:

  • A minimum of one year of professional work experience in data management
  • Experience in data collection and visualization
  • Experience of work with international organizations
  • Background and/or familiarity with emergencies and humanitarian contexts is considered as a strong asset

c) Language Requirements:

Fluency in English and local language of the duty station is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is considered as an asset.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Appointments are also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
