Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Ukraine is seeking a qualified professional for the project “Promotion of Energy Efficiency and Implementation of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive in Ukraine” to fill the position:

 PR and Communication Specialist (full-time, Kyiv)

Brief Project description:

The Energy and Climate Sector of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Ukraine comprises various projects implemented on behalf of the German government to support Ukraine on its way to transforming into an energy-efficient country. Partners of the projects are Ukrainian ministries on the national level, local communities on the municipal level, and companies in private sector. There are 10 projects in the Cluster portfolio. In their operations, they are supported by a Communications’ Unit to guarantee the proper communication of projects’ goals and results. To strengthen the Communication team ahead of the growing projects portfolio GIZ is looking for a qualified professional to fill the position of PR and Communication Specialist.

We are looking for a full-time PR & Communications Specialist with a firm grasp of political realities and sensitivity to support the implementation of communication strategies with the aim to drive change through offline and online channels, to dynamically communicate to target audiences our work, key messages, and achievements. Activities of this position will focus on the project “Support for Structural Change in Ukrainian Coal Regions” which aims to ensure that Ukraine carries out the structural change associated with the coal phase-out in a socially and economically compatible and ecologically sustainable manner, with the involvement of civil society.

This position foreseen Ukraine-wide travels, in case necessary, under a business as usual scenario (i.e. when travel restrictions are lifted).

Areas of responsibility:

• Media placements in print, broadcast and online media.
• Develop success stories to engage audiences across traditional and new media.
• Follow-up on requests (and proactive approach to projects) from individual projects related to a continuous PR-support covering developments on the project level.
• Text editing/copywriting for different communications channels (social media, brochures, etc.).
• Organize (search, purchase or take) right pictures for the different communications measures covering developments of the different projects.
• Get familiar with GIZ corporate design, visual language and corporate communication handouts Periodically offer introductory sessions on PR & Communications for new EE Cluster employees.
• Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts.
• Developing innovative concepts for stakeholder communications.
• Establishing and maintaining contacts to press and communications departments in partner institutions.
• Coordinating cooperation with external communication service providers (e.g. appraisers, agencies, photographers, trainers, copywriters).
• Produce print materials, i.e. brochures, booklets, factsheets.
• Create video materials.
• Assisting in other tasks as needed.

Required qualifications and experience:

• University degree or comparable training in PR / Communication or equivalent education.
• At least 5 years of work experience in the field of communication (Press and Public Relations, social media, Journalism or similar) – ideally in a related technical field (knowledge of energy (efficiency) is an advantage).
• High proficiency in written and spoken Ukrainian and English. German knowledge should aspire if not yet existent.
• Very good oral and writing skills; competent and confident style of communication and presentation with public and target-oriented groups.
• Experience with production of media for different information channels.
• Experience in control and briefing of service providers and agencies.
• Knowledge of publishing and graphics applications are desired.
• Proficient use of MS Office Package.
• Open-minded Team player with excellent intercultural competences.
• Critical and creative thinker.
• Strong commitment to and belief in the power of communication to help empower communities.
• Strong organizational and planning competences.
• Excellent communication, writing, presentation and organisational skills.
• Ability to work flexibly and independently, often under tight deadlines.
• High degree of discretion, integrity and sense of tone.
• Knowledge of the Ukrainian government’s reform agenda, in particular in the field of energy (desirable).

Employment conditions:

Full-time position with 40-hours working week. Place of assignment is Kyiv. Starting as soon as possible. Due to administrative issues the contract will be till end of June 2025, with an option to prolong it.
