Communication Specialist (full-time, Kyiv or other regions of Ukraine)

The project “ReACT4UA (Resilience / Recovery – Accession – Competitiveness – Trade) / EU4Business” improves resilience and competitiveness of Ukrainian enterprises, especially in view of the aspired EU accession. It pursues a multi-level approach. At the macro level, trade-related issues in the EU accession process and the implementation of the EU Free Trade Agreement are supported through policy advice and complementary procurement and financing. At the meso level, the business environment for small and medium enterprises (SME) is strengthened, especially through advisory services. Industrial associations and business clusters receive special support. In addition, local business support systems are being strengthened on a pilot basis by means of financing. At the enterprise level, the resilience and innovative capacity of SMEs are supported through financing and expert advice.
The Communication Specialist is deployed in the Action “EU4Business: SME Recovery Programme” as well as in the overall project. The Communication Specialist works closely together with another communication specialist who is covering the “sister” Action “EU4Business: SME Competitiveness and Internationalisation” within the same project.
Area of responsibilities:
- Further developing and improving the programme’s communication strategy;
- Developing and improving suitable communication instruments for external communication;
- Providing conceptual and organisational support to the project management on PR activities and advises staff in all PR questions;
- Preparation of Terms of Reference and steering of service providers (e.g. appraisers, agencies, photographers, trainers, copywriters);
- Ensuring the implementation of applicable standards and guidelines (GIZ, EU, German-Ukrainian Development Cooperation etc.) for communication activities by the programme team and external partners;
- Ensuring quality of projects’ success stories for various internal and external online and offline channels, such as social media, websites, interviews, press releases, presentations etc.;
- Drafting of communication material;
- Coordinating press and PR activities, including accompanying project events of public significance and compiling information materials for media professionals attending such events;
- Establishing and maintaining contact and good flow of communication to national press, and PR departments of government partners, international donors and implementing organizations, other GIZ projects, and the GIZ country office;
- Strengthening capacities of partners in their external communication about the project.
Requirements to candidates:
- Masters’ or post-graduate degree in Journalism, Communication or in a related field (Creative Writing, Marketing, Social Science etc.);
- At least 3 years of experience in a similar position (Press and Public Relations, Journalism, internal communications or lobbying or similar);
- Proven experience in managing communication and outreach activities of an organization in a similar international context;
- Experience in liaising with stakeholders such as government officials, private actors, civil society and the press;
- Experience in working with social media on behalf of an organization;
- Very good command of English and Ukrainian language in speaking and writing are required, knowledge of German is an asset;
- Good working knowledge of ICT technologies and applications (e.g. MS Office);
- Knowledge of publishing and graphics applications are desired;
- Good self-organisation skills;
- Customer and service-oriented attitude;
- Willingness to upskill as required by the task to be performed;
- Ability to work under pressure.

Employment conditions
Full-time position with 40-hours working week until April 2025. Place of assignment is Kyiv or other regions of Ukraine. Some travel within Ukraine is possible.
