Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Ukraine is seeking qualified professionals for the project “Utilization and implementation of the Association agreement between the EU and Ukraine in the field of trade/ EU4Business: SME Recovery Programme in Ukraine” (hereafter “Project”) for its office in Kyiv or other regions of Ukraine to fill the positions of the

 Grant Advisor (full-time, Kyiv)

The project “Utilization and implementation of the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine in the field of trade / EU4Business” improves resilience and competitiveness of Ukrainian enterprises, especially in view of the aspired EU accession. It pursues a multi-level approach. At the macro level, trade-related issues in the EU accession process and the implementation of the EU Free Trade Agreement are supported through policy advice and complementary procurement and financing. At the meso level, the business environment for small and medium enterprises (SME) is strengthened, especially through advisory services. Industrial associations and business clusters receive special support. In addition, local business support systems are being strengthened on a pilot basis by means of financing. At the enterprise level, the resilience and innovative capacity of SMEs are supported through financing and expert advice.

The Grant Advisor is deployed in the Action “EU4Business. SME Recovery Programme”, particularly in Workstreams 1 “Direct support to micro and small businesses affected by war” and 2 “Improved competitiveness of SME in the European market”.

The Grant Advisor is responsible for:

  • Planning and coordination of activities in the field of SME Recovery Programme in Ukraine;
  • Implementing of daily operational aspects of issues related to SME Recovery Programme in Ukraine;
  • Coordinating with grant management organizations and potential applicants, technical assistance in the application process, monitoring of the selection process, advice to supported micro-businesses;
  • Preselection of business advisors supporting SME, quality control of adjusted business plans, participation in the selection process of SME for grant support, direct advice to MSME;
  • Maintaining of a good flow of communication and information between all involved institutions, partnering organizations and counterparts and GIZ;
  • Liaising with project partners to plan and implement project activities related to grant activity;
  • Accompanying financing measures of the Project with recipients;
  • Elaborating technical documents for project activities;
  • Responsibility for approving and controlling expenses for project activities in accordance with the prevailing provisions;
  • Assisting national and international advisers in carrying out their work;
  • Assisting the project with all organisational and management issues.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Master‘s degree in economics, project management or in an area that is related to the project/programme objectives, with a focus on a relevant field (equivalent to MA);
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in a comparable position;
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in SME development in an international organization, a public entity, or an industrial association;
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in the private sector, especially in an SME is a strong asset;
  • Ability and experience (at least 2 years) to work in a political environment;
  • Business fluent command of Ukrainian, Russian and English language (verbally and written);
  • Knowledge of German would be an advantage;
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications (e.g. MS Office);
  • Experienced to work in an international team;
  • Good self-organisation skills;
  • Customer and service-oriented attitude;
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed;
  • Ability to work under pressure.

Employment conditions

Full-time position with 40-hours working week until April 2025. Place of assignment is Kyiv or other regions of Ukraine. Some travel within Ukraine is possible.
