TITLE: Project Coordinator

ORGANIZATION: Institute for Peace and Common Ground (IPCG)

LOCATION: Kyiv, Ukraine

JOB STATUS: full-time

REPORTS TO: Head of the organization

DURATION: The position is currently funded til October 31, 2016 with possible extension within other initiatives

OVERVIEW:

IPCG seeks a qualified Ukrainian professional to fill the position of Project Coordinator for the “Conflict resolution and tolerance building among conflict affected children and youth” project funded by UNICEF. The Project Coordinator will provide overall management of the project activities, and will act as a day-to-day contact for internal communication, as well as communication with stakeholders and partners.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Institute for Peace and Common Ground (IPCG) is a Ukrainian non-governmental, non-profit organization that facilitates the development of groups and communities through dialogue to achieve positive and sustainable change. Since the time of its creation under the name of Ukrainian Centre for Common Ground it has almost 15 years of experience introducing and promoting various participatory practices (such as the community-based juvenile crime prevention model), diverse restorative practices (mediation, family group conferences and decision-making circles) in communities and schools (covering 14 regions of Ukraine and 120 schools). IPCG experts work with various groups and organizations mediating community-based multi-party negotiations in cross-cultural contexts; facilitating different organizational development processes (strategic planning, organizational capacity assessment etc.); providing education and skills-training on a variety of themes (conflict competencies, basic (and advanced level) mediation skills and process, negotiation skills and strategies).

The 9-month “Conflict resolution and tolerance building among conflict affected children and youth” project will be implemented in Donetsk oblast (Ukrainian government-controlled territory) and Kyiv. The program comprises three components:

  • implementation of restorative practices in schools to improve capacity of students and teachers in the area of non-conflict communication;
  • establishment of a system of School Centres for Common Ground to provide peer mediation and conflict resolution services in targeted schools;
  • development and implementation of a mediation programme in a juvenile justice process as a mechanism of diversion of children in conflict with the law from the formal justice system and rehabilitation measure.

The position will be based in Kyiv with frequent travel to the target project region (Mariupol area, Donetsk oblast).

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • provide timely accomplishment of the project implementation plan and all related project activities;
  • maintain contacts and smooth communication with project partners and stakeholders;
  • establish and maintain communication and other operational requirements for the effective work of the project team;
  • monitor the performance of contractual, respective payments, timelines etc. (in coordination with the project finance manager and other staff members);
  • provide logistical support for project events, activities, and travel within the project activities;
  • prepare activity reports according to the donor’s requirements;
  • other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  • degree in project management, social work, public administration or related fields of studies.
  • proficiency in Ukrainian, Russian and English (good spoken level);
  • previous successful working experience as a project coordinator or project manager;
  • experience of work in non-profit sector (civil society organizations and/or donor organizations);
  • highly organized with excellent attention to details, good ability to combine prompt and accurate performance;
  • ability to handle multiple tasks and competing demands in tight deadlines;
  • good communication skills (both spoken and written);
  • excellent interpersonal and team-working skills, good understanding of cooperative approach to management and problem solving;
  • creative problem solving skills, ability to identify and solve problems on an immediate basis;
  • open-minded, positive thinker, highly motivated and energetic;
  • good command of relevant computer applications, including MS Office and online tools.
