Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Ukraine is seeking qualified professionals for the project Support for Structural Change in Ukrainian Coal Regions to fill the position of a

Junior Specialist (full-time, Chervonohrad)

(internal SAP code: Junior Urban and Regional Development Specialist)

In the upcoming decade, unprofitable state-owned coal mines will be seizing its operations. This poses major social and economic challenges for the coal regions. The structural change needed to overcome them, based on the concepts of Just Transition and Green Recovery, can provide new impetus for the development and growth in the affected regions, and beyond. Decarbonization of the economy also makes a significant contribution to Ukraine’s ability to raise its level of ambition in the context of global climate protection.

The aim of the project “Support for Structural Change in Ukrainian Coal Regions” is to ensure that Ukraine carries out the structural change associated with the coal phase-out in a socially and economically compatible and ecologically sustainable manner, with the involvement of civil society, using appropriate funding instruments in accordance with the concepts of Just Transition and Green Recovery.

Responsibilities:

  • Support Head of the regional project office and project team in the implementation of all technical support activities relating to regional development and pilot project implementation in the field of structural change in coal regions/ just transition.
  • Support in compiling, verifying, collating of data and information related to projects’ operations.
  • Contribute to the organization of operational planning and other coordination sessions of the team.
  • Assist in organization, implementation, documentation, communication and follow-up of workshops, trainings, stakeholder consultations and other events (offline, online, hybrid), international exchange formats and field visits of international delegations.
  • Support the project team in monitoring project activities, knowledge management and document management for DMS in line with GIZ’s filing rules, keep track of forthcoming meetings and events and autonomously monitor and address open tasks and deadlines for these events.
  • Assist with PR work for the project regional office.
  • Support a project database, namely database of the regional project office.
  • Perform other duties and tasks at the request.

Requirements:

  • BA\ BSc or MA\ MSc with a focus on a relevant field.
  • At least 1 years of experience, including through internships.
  • Interest for the coal transformation agenda.
  • Fluency in Ukrainian; English intermediate.
  • Excellent and proactive communicator with a service-oriented attitude.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office package and digital conference tools.
  • Curiosity and creativity in inventing new exchange formats.

Employment conditions

Full-time position with 40-hours working week. Place of assignment is Chervonohrad, Lviv region. The assignment starts as soon as possible. Contract duration is 1 year.
