Accounting Specialist (full-time, Kyiv)

The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and European Union (EU) and is implemented by GIZ. It supports communities in the Regions Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhya, Sumy, Donetsk and Luhansk (GCA) in improving the quality and the access to social, medical and administrative services on a local level, in particular with respect to vulnerable population groups. For that purpose, the project will coordinate and cooperate with a broad range of local/national and international partners and stakeholders.
Areas of responsibilities:
- ensuring that financial administration functions well in accordance with GIZ standard procedures;
- effectively coordinating with the staff of the finance team in the GIZ Country Office or the GIZ Head Office;
- cash payments and deposits at the bank;
- creating payments via online banking for approval by the respective supervisor;
- financial planning, monitoring and accounting for GIZ-assisted projects;
- monitoring income, expenditure and the monthly bank reconciliation;
- filing month-end closings;
- managing the processing of letters of credit;
- initiating the financial planning and reports the monthly budget requirements of the project;
- monitoring real accounts (payables, receivables) and reports regularly to the officer responsible;
- monitoring payment schedules according to contracts with third parties;
- conducting an initial arithmetic calculation of third-party invoices;
- ensuring the correctness of invoices by third parties;
- administrating physical cash flows and the project cash desk;
- checks travel expense report of staff for approval by the respective supervisor;
- reimbursing costs of project staff against proof of payment for project related activities;
- inventory providing of the project assets;
- consults recipient of local subsidies and partners of GIZ in terms of invoice handling and preparation of the financial reports.
Required qualifications, experience and competences:
- BA in accounting and auditing or similar area;
- at least 3 years’ professional experience in a comparable position;
- in-depth knowledge of accounting software;
- good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office);
- confidential handling of data and information;
- native speaker of Ukrainian, very good knowledge of English, ideally a knowledge of German;
- willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management;
- experience with accounting systems is an asset.

Employment conditions
The assignment starts in June 2023. It is a full-time position with 40-hours working week. The contract duration is until 31.12.2024. Place of duty is Kyiv.
