Background

The Coordination Officer works under the overall supervision of the Humanitarian Affairs Officer in Kyiv. The Coordination Unit works to improve the timeliness and effectiveness of humanitarian response by ensuring greater predictability, accountability and partnership.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Humanitarian Affairs Officer, the incumbent will undertake the following tasks:

  • Ensure monitoring, analysis and reporting on humanitarian developments, disaster relief/management or emergency situations in Ukraine;
  • Ensure the follow-up work in support of the Inter-Cluster Coordination Group (ICCG) and the HCT, including providing secretariat and administrative support in meetings and events, including minutes taking, etc;
  • Ensure assistance in the production of a consolidated humanitarian response planning and monitoring;
  • Assist in the organisation of field missions when required;
  • Preparation of various written reports, documents and communications, e.g. briefings, presentations, correspondence, talking points, etc.;
  • Maintaining close liaison with UN Agencies, local and international NGOs, humanitarian partners and national authorities, ensuring a constant information flow and information dissemination between relevant national authorities and the UNOCHA Office in Ukraine on the humanitarian-related information and extended HCT operations, facilitate coordination of humanitarian assistance by national and international partners;
  • Participate in work groups, meetings, conferences, consultations with other agencies and partners on humanitarian and emergency relief-related matters as assigned;
  • Compilation, collation, verification and triangulation of data/info for the drafting of OCHA regular information products in English, Ukrainian/Russian in collaboration with Public Information/Reporting Unit;
  • Encourage, mobilize and support co-workers and local communities to play an active part in the development of emergency response tools and strategies;
  • Perform other duties as required.

Impact of Results:

  • The Coordination Unit of OCHA Ukraine is fully supported to ensure that it performs its secretariat roles in an accountable manner, including timely production of accurate situational update and monitoring; and timely follow-up of identified priority actions of the ICCG and the HCT, etc.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in political or social science, disaster management, international relations, public administration or any related field;
  • Bachelor’s degree with 2 additional years of extensive relevant professional experience in related area is accepted in lieu of Master’s degree.

Experience:

  • Up to 2 years of relevant working experience, including professional experience in humanitarian Language Requirements:affairs, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, rehabilitation, development, or other related area;
  • Proven analytical skills and experience on timely delivery of written reports, prepared in an accurate and concise manner;
  • Computer literacy (Excel, Internet, Word).

Language Requirements:

  • Fluent written and spoken English, Ukrainian and Russian.
