Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Ukraine is seeking a qualified professional for the project “Power4JustTransition” to fill the position of the

Junior Energy Specialist (full-time, Lviv or Kyiv)

(internal SAP code: Junior Energy Specialist)

The Junior Energy Specialist is a team member in the GIZ-project “Power4JustTransition”, commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) of Germany. The project is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in close cooperation with the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development and the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine. The project operates within the framework of four components:

1) National level – support for the further development of a strategic, regulatory and institutional framework within the framework of EU convergence for just energy transition and reconstruction;

2) Regional and local level – implementation of resilient and just structural change and strengthening of energy security in coal regions;

3) Financing – financing of structural change and energy security in coal regions;

4) Infrastructure and reconstruction – infrastructure for rehabilitation and green reconstruction.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the Programme Component manager and project team in the implementation of all technical support activities relating to regional development and pilot project implementation in the field of just transition.
  • Support in compiling, verifying, collating of data and information related to projects’ operations.
  • Makes technical translations of internal documents, reports, and presentations.
  • Contribute to the organization of operational planning and other coordination sessions of the team.
  • Assist in organization, implementation, documentation, communication and follow-up of workshops, trainings, stakeholder consultations and other events (offline, online, hybrid), international exchange formats and field visits of international delegations.
  • Support the project team in monitoring project activities, knowledge management and document management for DMS in line with GIZ’s filing rules, keep track of forthcoming meetings and events and autonomously monitor and address open tasks and deadlines for these events
  • Provide cross-cutting support to the project team, procurement and finance officers in performing their tasks related to the project operations.
  • This position requires Ukraine-wide travels, in case necessary, under a business as usual scenario (i.e. when travel restrictions are lifted).
  • Prepares Terms of References for consulting contracts on project level and researching projects and ensure quality and compliance with GIZ rules of the services provided by external experts and service providers.
  • Perform other duties and tasks at the request of the management.

Required qualifications, competences and experience:

  • BA\ BSc or MA\ MSc with a focus on a relevant field.
  • At least 2 years of experience.
  • Interest for the coal transformation agenda.
  • Fluency in Ukrainian and English.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Excellent and proactive communicator with a service-oriented attitude.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office package and digital conference tools.
  • Curiosity and creativity in inventing new exchange formats.

Employment conditions:

 Full-time position with 40-hours working week. Place of assignment is Lviv or Kyiv. Starting as soon as possible. The contract duration will be 12 months with the possibility of prolongation.
