Environmental Engineer

 

The USAID/Ukraine Energy Security Project (ESP) is a USAID funded project with the mission to enhance Ukraine’s energy security, to improve the energy legal and regulatory environment and to increase resilience of energy supply. This will help Ukraine to achieve broad-based, resilient economic development to sustain country’s democracy. ESP will work closely with the Government of Ukraine (GOU) to develop competitive energy markets. By doing so, Ukraine will facilitate private sector-led energy investments, and provide secure, reliable, and affordable energy for all Ukrainians.

Position Summary:

Tetra Tech is looking for an Environmental Engineer who will help maintain compliance with applicable environmental regulations, and quality assurance for technical work products. This person will be part of the District Heating and Natural Gas team, and report to the District Heating Lead.

Responsibilities: 

  1. Provide environmental compliance support to counterparts, including on-site assistance as needed.
  2. Prepare, review, and update environmental investigation and recommendation reports. Should be adept at technical reporting.
  3. Prepare plans, permits, and reports for air quality, hazardous waste, spill prevention, storm water, and wastewater program compliance.
  4. Support the development of EHS compliance and management system programs.
  5. Perform environmental compliance audits and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with national and local regulations.
  6. Perform multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
  7. Interact and maintain successful relationships with counterparts, other ESP employees, and subcontractors.
  8. Support project management to effectively manage projects.
  9. Other responsibilities, as designated by the project needs.

Qualifications:

  • BS in chemical or environmental engineering, chemistry, environmental science, or related discipline. Masters a plus.
  • At least 5 years of relevant environmental compliance consulting experience or professional internships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong organization/analytical skills; experience working with detailed technical data and reports.
  • Strong MS Office computer skills; advanced understanding of Excel required; PowerPoint and Access desired.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to facilities as needed.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility, problem solve, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Professional registration desired.
  • Degree in engineering, preferably environmental engineering.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Experience working on USAID or other donor-funded projects is a plus
  • Knowledge of computer software for project management is a plus
