Alinea International is recruiting a qualified Communications Officer based in Kyiv, Ukraine to work with the administrative and technical teams of the PROTECT2 project implemented by Alinea International and funded by the Department of National Defence of Canada. 

About the Project. The Promoting Reform Objectives through Technical Expertise and Capacity Transfer Phase 2 (PROTECT2) is an international technical assistance project, which offers short-term expert (Ukrainian and international) deployment and capacity to strengthening defence sector of Ukraine. The project responds to the needs of Ukraine’s defence institutions and agencies and focuses on building strong analytical approaches in gender equality; women peace and security (WPS); social inclusion; defence governance and planning, capabilities development and resource management in defence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that PROTECT2 adheres to Alinea’s brand guidelines as outlined by corporate HQ in Canada
  • Develop an overall PROTECT2 communications strategy which could include events, social media, website content, email newsletter, press releases/conferences, etc.
  • Develop a distinct communications and outreach strategy for the Women in Defence NGO, working in collaboration with the WiD Senior Coordinator
  • Write and develop media materials which can include press releases, media advisories, public service announcements, and blog posts
  • Support PROTECT2 workstreams (WPS, DGP, PRM, CDM) and, with management guidance, PROTECT2 beneficiaries in communications and outreach
  • Build communications capacity of PROTECT2 staff and its beneficiaries and partners.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with PROTECT2 team and stakeholders to ensure any content writing/editing/review requests are fulfilled accurately and without errors
  • Create and manage timely and engaging content optimized for social media and online platforms designed for target audience/s
  • As required, create clear, professional graphics for communications products
  • Support communications objectives at PROTECT2 events, including photography, creation of presentations, publications
  • Advise project management on media relations; plan, manage and coordinate management-approved media events
  • Build and maintain accurate, up to date contact list accessible to project team
  • Coordinate and compile the quarterly Project Update, requested speaking points and targeted project briefs
  • Create and maintain databases of communications materials, structured and filed in PROTECT2 SharePoint
  • Monitor and analyze any benchmarks or metrics regarding project’s brand reputation and make recommendations for improvement
  • Ensure PROTECT2 communications are consistent with Ukrainian defence operational security considerations
  • Translate and/or ensure quality translation of the PROTECT2’s communications materials.

Academic Qualifications and Experience:

Mandatory:

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, journalism or a related field (i.e. Bachelor or equivalent);
  • Minimum of three years of working experience in communications
  • Written and spoken mastery of both English and Ukrainian and language application in a communications context
