PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Ukraine has been at war since February 2022, and civilians still continue suffering from air attacks on infrastructure, challenging economic situations, and their personal challenges as leaving everything behind and moving to a safer places. Thus, the strategy of Mercy Corps Ukraine Response focuses on economic opportunities for war-affected Ukrainians and establishing peace and good governance.

Mercy Corps supports conflict-affected populations with swift and sustained humanitarian assistance and community-driven investments that strengthen local partnerships, promote economic resilience and innovation, and build a more just and inclusive society.

A Multimedia Intern will be a part of Mercy Corps Communications team. The objective of our communication in Ukraine is to elevate awareness about Mercy Corps, engage local communities, and showcase Mercy Corps’ humanitarian impact in Ukraine through diverse communication channels. In our communication, we strive to encompass local communities, partners in Ukraine, international partners, and our colleagues in Mercy Corps both in Ukraine, and globally.

The work of the Communications team involves:

  • communications support to the Mercy Corps teams and partner organizations, including conducting briefings on MC communications & visibility requirements; reviewing, rewriting, and designing materials prepared by teams;
  • leading our external and internal communication channels, which include 1) external: social media, media engagement, webpages, visibility materials; 2) internal: newsletter, reporting documents;
  • content creation and distribution, including the production of success stories (which are a combination of photos, videos and interviews) and cooperation with the global photographer and content-producer, partner organizations and external suppliers to create a wider range of materials.

The Intern will be working on creating and leading a social media communication to highlight our ERP (Economic Resilience Program), UASP (Ukraine Agriculture Support Program) and LIVES
(Locally led, Inclusive and Versatile Emergency Support to Conflict Affected Populations in Ukraine) programs with a goal to increase awareness and engagement.

This project will include working with the Communications team on:

  • adapting photo-, video- and text materials for social media pages, including: rewriting publications, editing videos and photos, translating materials;
  • working on basic design, including infographics and layouts for social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn). 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Master effective storytelling: The intern will learn how to craft compelling narratives through multimedia content, combining visuals, text, and audio to tell impactful stories.
  • Build skills in content creation and management: The intern will gain experience in creating, editing, and managing a variety of content types, including blog posts, social media posts, and videos.
  • Develop a deep understanding of humanitarian communication: The intern will learn about the principles and best practices of humanitarian communication, with a focus on communicating complex issues in a clear and engaging way.
  • Gain a deep understanding of humanitarian field through Mercy Corps’ programs: The intern will collaborate with program teams to learn about the specific needs and challenges faced by communities Mercy Corps serves. They will gain insights into the organization’s approach to humanitarian assistance and development.

DELIVERABLES:

  • copywriting, editing, translating texts;
  • designing infographics and layouts;
  • editing photos and videos.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • University degree in progress or recently completed (within 2 years) in relevant discipline (Marketing, (International) Communications, International Relations);
  • Prior experience in creating and editing content for digital platforms;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across different teams;
  • An interest in learning about humanitarian work and a desire to contribute to positive change.
