Communication Specialist (full-time, Kyiv)

In general, the Communication Specialist will be responsible for communication of impact and project activities in Integrated Urban Development, GovTech and Transparency, Eastern Partnership regional cooperation as well as EU Association of Ukraine.
The communication officer advises and supports heads of projects as well as project professionals and executives in the Good Governance (GG) I Cluster on project communication. He/she is responsible for creating and telling interesting information on GG projects, but also for ensuring a coherent and quality-checked outside representation according to German development cooperation, EU, Swiss donor´s and GIZ Ukraine regulations.
Tasks:
- Coordinating the press activities of the cluster in cooperation with project technical staff.
- Building and maintaining a network to the local and national press, PR structures of partner institutions and maintains contacts to the media centres of relevant cities in Ukraine.
- Writing and sending press releases on projects in Ukrainian and English language.
- Collecting information material for the press and distributing these systematically and focus-group specifically.
- Advising the officers responsible for the commission as well as advisers of the cluster projects on cooperating with the press.
- Participating in PR meetings of GIZ Ukraine on behalf of the cluster.
- Observing the development of relevant guidelines (Corporate Design, content standards, using Social Media) and ensuring implementation of these regulations.
- Managing the development of appropriate communication instruments (e.g. fact sheets, project activity overviews, social media channels).
- Writing communication products such as articles, info posts, press releases or info sheets.
- Managing and updating cluster event calendar for German Embassy.
- Accompanying and advising on events of public significance; supports the preparation of high-level visits, other visibility events and national / international media delegations.
- Coordinates visibility-related cooperation with project partners and external communication service providers (e.g. appraisers, agencies, photographers, trainers, copywriters).
- Ensures an ongoing development of Corporate Identity of the cluster and its projects.
- Writes and/or proofreads project external reports and visibility products.
- Providing regularly input of the cluster and its projects to GIZ internal portals and media (IDA communities, GIZ Ukraine website, intranet, newsletters, etc.).
- Conducting monitoring of external posts and information in social media about the projects of GGI.
- Conducts editorial work on the websites of GIZ projects; writes, coordinates and up-dates content,
- Manages social media channels and website(s) of GGI projects.
- Elaborates suggestions for the PR work of the projects and provides suggestions for communication concept and strategies.
- Designs and prepares info materials for various channels (like basic leaflets or appealing posts).
Required qualifications, competences and experience
- Graduate of Journalism, Communication, Social Studies, Economics or related.
- 3 years professional experience in a comparable position / proven track record in communication.
- Proven experience in managing communication and outreach activities of an organization in a similar international context and in liaising with stakeholders such as government officials, private actors, civil society and the press.
- Good contacts to (local/regional) media; experience in maintaining contacts to journalists.
- Experience in working with media and social media on behalf of an organization and in writing articles and press releases, in internal communications, in implementing corporate design guidelines, in handling internal communications instruments.
- Very good working knowledge of IT technologies and computer; basic knowledge of and interest for the Ukrainian government’s reform agenda, in the field of good governance, EU Association, urban planning and development, public finances.
- Native written and spoken Ukrainian; excellent command of the English language; knowledge of German (asset).
- Ability to navigate a politically sensitive environment successfully and to understand requirements for communication in politically sensitive situations.
- Team player with excellent intercultural competences and experience of working in an international context; excellent presentation skills.
- Willingness to travel within Ukraine after lifting martial law.

Employment conditions
Full-time position with 40-hours working week. The contract duration is till February 2024. Place of assignment is Kyiv. Starting as soon as possible.
