TERMS OF REFERENCE
DW Akademie is Deutsche Welle’s centre for international media development, journalism training and knowledge transfer. Our projects strengthen the human right to freedom of expression and unhindered access to information. DW Akademie empowers people worldwide to make independent decisions based on reliable facts and constructive dialogue.
DW Akademie is looking for motivated Ukrainian professionals in communication, comedy and stage skills willing to join the team for the MIL (media and information literacy) programme in the period of 14, July 2025 – 28, February 2026 to support the DW Akademie in the development and conducting of the online and offline training course for the Ukrainian teenagers and young people and coaching them as a part of the preparation part for the YouTube show “Humor vs. Fakes” .
The MIL Stand-up trainer’s work envisages a mix of experience as a trainer for teenagers, knowledge in comedy and communication, understanding of the approach to juniors (12-17 years old), and skills in designing the educational materials for the named target audience.
The team of MIL Stand-up trainers (2 persons) will be expected to provide a range of deliverables:
- Deliverables for MIL Stand-up
Preparatory Phase
- Design engaging and age-appropriate programme for the MIL and comedy course meeting the needs and interests of teenagers.
- Plan the schedule for the online and offline activities (Meet-up, lectures, training sessions)
Trainer Tasks
- Сonduct up to 10 offline and online classes in: storytelling, comedy and improvisation Writing a monologue from scratch. Support to the participants in the preparation of their own stand-ups. Preparation and organisation of the practical sessions, rehearsals.
- Moderation of the main gatherings during the programme cycle (Meet-up, MIL Stand-up Show).
- Participation in touch base sessions with the MIL trainers and project team.
Communication
- Frequent communication with DW Akademie project team regarding the status of the MIL Stand-up development.
- Regular feedback on the project design and how it can be better adjusted to the participants’ needs. Support in setting up of the final Show.
1.1 Deliverables for the YouTube Show “Humor vs. Fakes”
Preparatory phase:
- Support to the project team with the scenario of the show.
- Selection of the teenagers who will be part of the show.
Trainer tasks:
- Work with the teenagers on the scripts, artistic and voice skills.
- Work in the 6-8 shooting shifts.
Communication:
- Frequent communication with DW Akademie and Public Media Academy Juniors project teams regarding the status of scenario development.
- Regular feedback on the project design and how it can be better adjusted to the participants’ needs.
2. Qualifications
Essential
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in being in the comedy and stand-ups industry. Being an active performer and monologue writer.
- Ability to develop a training programme.
- Ability to develop a scenario for the comedy show and write scripts for the show.
- Previous experience in mentoring, teaching, providing any kind of capacity-building.
- Fluency in Ukrainian.
- Good communication skills and patience to work with the DW Akademie and Public Media Academy Juniors project teams.
Desirable
- Experience in conducting trainings and coaching sessions for teenagers.
- Experience in working with international media development organisations.
