Перекладач (ка) / Translator/Interpreter

Chemonics is seeking a Translator/Interpreter to support the the Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine (PFRU). The Partnership Fund for a Resilient Ukraine is a multi-year, multi-donor funded programme managed by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The aim of PFRU is to strengthen the resilience of the Ukrainian government, economy, media and the Ukrainian civil society by delivering essential resilience project support to the relevant partners.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Translator/Interpreter will be responsible for:

• Translation of technical and administrative documentation and other project materials related to PFRU in Ukrainian-English and English-Ukrainian.
• Provide high quality consecutive and simultaneous interpretation.
• Interpret during meetings with partners, counterparts, subcontractors, field visits, and specific workshops and/or trainings.
• Review outsourced translations for accuracy and consistency of meaning, grammar and syntax. Coordinate with Operations Team on outsourcing of translations as needed.
• Provides services as writer and editor when needed.
• Support PFRU project events, seminars, workshops and trainings for related translation and interpretation.
• Perform any other tasks assigned by the Team Lead, Deputy Team Leads, or Finance and Operations Manager which are consistent with his/her qualifications, this Scope of Work and activities of PFRU.
• Written deliverables as designated by the Team Lead, Deputy Team Leads, or Finance and Operations Manager, and technical staff as appropriate.
• Reports to Operations and Finance Manager and supports overall project translation/ interpretation requests with required and agreed deadlines.
• Completion of translation of operational, technical and prime contract deliverables.
• Efficient technical interpretation.
• Stay abreast of PFRU’s technical programming in order to provide effective translation and interpretation of complex and nuanced technical subjects.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of four years of translating technical documents in relevant field desired
• Translation/Interpretation ability for English and Ukrainian required
• Ability to provide high-quality consecutive and simultaneous interpretation.
• Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills (e.g., tact, diplomacy and patience) in the context of dealing with expatriate and local staff members, as well as with FCDO representatives and both international and local partners.
• Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation in handling all assigned tasks.
• Previous international donor experience preferred.
• Bachelors degree in a relevant field preferred.
• Ability to travel around Ukraine (including overnight stays if needed).
• Excellent writing and oral presentation skills.
• Fluent English and Native Ukrainian required.

REPORTING:

The Translator/Interpreter will report to the Operations and Finance Manager.

PLACE OF ASSIGNMENT

PFRU currently operates remotely due to the ongoing war. This policy is assessed and revised regularly with the intention of establishing a permanent office in Kyiv in June 2022 with staff working from there.
