About the project

NORLAU is a Norwegian Rule of Law Advisory Team to Ukraine since 2018 operating under the supervision of the Directorate of Norwegian Correctional Service (KDI). It is a technical assistance and cooperation project funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

An agreement is signed between the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and Ministry of Justice and Security of the Kingdom of Norway on cooperation to support the implementation of a Full-Scale Probation Service and alternative sanctions in Ukraine.

In its work, NORLAU supports the Public Institution “Center of Probation” in Ukraine to be developed in line with international standards and best practice in the field of probation. In order to make this institution a key player in the criminal justice system, it is important to provide professional intervention throughout the whole criminal justice system.

The central office is located in Kyiv with two pilot projects in Kharkiv and Bila Tserkva. As part of the NORLAU team in the central office in Kyiv, for the project period 2020-2022, we are looking for:

KHARKIV OFFICE MANAGER / INTERPRETER

  • One expert fulfilling the tasks of office manager/interpreter to be allocated at our pilot office in Kharkiv

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide smooth interpretation during official meetings, field visits, conferences, daily discussions, etc. from Ukrainian/Russian to English and vice versa
  • Ensure translation of official documents, social media adds, reports and other information of legal nature from Ukrainian/Russian to English and vice versa
  • Draft invitation letters, participant lists, agendas and other project materials in Ukrainian and English
  • Assist in organization and carrying out meetings, workshops, seminars and roundtables
  • Ensure regular communication, cooperation and coordination with project offices in Kyiv and Bila Tserkva according to internal working procedures, for instance, for coordinating local project budget matters
  • Collect, register and distribute all ingoing and outgoing correspondence, print documents, distribute them among the team
  • Arrange travels, accommodation, official travel authorization and travel claims for NORLAU and non-NORLAU officials
  • Assist in procurement of materials and equipment
  • Provide office support (control and maintenance of office equipment and supplies availability, order services required)
  • Plan activities to ensure safe and uninterrupted office operations
  • Closely cooperate with local institutions, municipalities and NGOs in activities regarding NORLAU project goals
  • Ensure that all activities are implemented in a professional way and timely manner

Some travel will be required

Education

  • University degree in linguistics, translation studies, management or equivalent education in relevant subject field that suits the position applied.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in translation/interpretation in English – Ukrainian -Russian
  • Experience in translation of legal documents, official letters and public speeches
  • Experience in administrative and project work, logistics, preferably in international environment

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in translation/interpretation in English – Ukrainian -Russian

Language

  • English – fluent in speaking, reading and writing including extensive knowledge of legal terminology
  • Ukrainian, Russian – fluent in speaking, reading and writing

Skills and abilities

  • Good interpersonal skills to interact effectively with NORLAU team, governmental and non-governmental institutions and international partners
  • Good judgement and organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks
  • Ability to work in a team and independently in a structured and targeted manner, in accordance with adopted NORLAU strategies
  • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, fairness and impartiality
  • Flexibility and openness
  • Attention to the detail is crucial

Legal status

  • The applicants must be the citizens of Ukraine.

Working time

Full time: Monday – Friday

Working hours: 09.00 – 16.30

Type of contract: Service Contract

Duration of contract: one year with possible prolongation

Foreseen start of work: 14.09.2020

Work location: Kharkiv pilot office  

Competitive salary based on the agreement with the project management team
