Position Title:Junior Project Assistant  
Duty Station:Poltava, Ukraine
Classification:General Service Staff, Grade G-3 
Type of Appointment:Fixed Term, one year with the possibility of extension

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context: 

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) in Ukraine and direct supervision of the Project Specialist (Migration and Sustainable Development), the successful candidate will assist in implementation of IOM Ukraine economic recovery activities that focus, inter alia, on employment opportunities, Micro-, Small-, and Medium-Enterprises (MSMEs) support and diaspora engagement.

 Core Functions / Responsibilities: 

  1. Provide general assistance in the implementation of project activities and coordinate with other units as required.
  2. Retrieve, compile, summarize, and present information/data on specific project topics.
  3. Draft status reports, correspondence, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations, and other forms of documentation.
  4. Support the organization of field missions, meetings, workshops, training sessions and other MSD related events/activities.
  5. Respond to general information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records.
  6. Maintain routine communication with (potential) beneficiaries and representatives of the implementing partners and service providers as assigned.
  7. Support the organization of required financial, procurement and administrative documents for the MSD activities.
  8. Assist as necessary with clerical project monitoring and evaluation tasks.
  9. Undertake duty travel within Ukraine as required.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • High school diploma with three years of relevant experience; OR,
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with one year of relevant professional experience.

 Experience 

  • Experience in administrative, organizational, logistical work is an advantage;
  • Experience in working with migrants, displaced populations and other vulnerable groups;
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.

 Skills

  • Knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the Organization;
  • Strong communication and organizational skills;
  • Knowledge of economic conditions in Ukraine, economic recovery, work with private sector are desirable.

Languages

Fluency in English and Ukrainian is required (oral and written).
