Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) opens a vacancy for the position of the Advocacy Communication Specialist.

 Job purpose

As an Advocacy Communication Specialist, you will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society Humanitarian Advocacy and Diplomacy Strategy. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact and bring valuable assistance to the Ukrainian people. You will be responsible for coordinating communication advocacy campaigns and working with narratives to promote the organization’s goals and objectives. By collaborating between the Humanitarian Advocacy and Diplomacy Unit and the Communication Department, you will contribute to the successful execution of advocacy initiatives and campaigns.

Success Indicators:

  • Timely Preparation of Communication Advocacy Products: Your success will be measured by your ability to produce communication advocacy products efficiently upon request of the Humanitarian Advocacy and Diplomacy Unit. This includes delivering high-quality materials within specified timeframes.
  • Level of Cooperation and Synergy: The success of your role will be evaluated based on the level of cooperation and synergy built between the Humanitarian Advocacy and Diplomacy Unit and the Communication Department. Your ability to foster collaboration, coordination, and effective communication between these teams will be essential.
  • Scope and Impact of Organized Advocacy Campaigns: The success indicator will consider the level and scope of advocacy campaigns you organize. This includes assessing the reach, engagement, and impact of these campaigns in promoting the URCS’s humanitarian goals and priorities. 

Job duties and responsibilities

Essential Tasks:

  • To lead coordination and cooperation between URCS Humanitarian Advocacy and Diplomacy Unit and communications department.
  • Maintain coherence between the communicational components of URCS’s Humanitarian Advocacy and Diplomacy Strategy and the organization’s general communication strategy and approach.
  • Ensure the timely preparation of communicational products related to Humanitarian Advocacy and Diplomacy, such as news articles, digests, positional papers, communication briefings, and narratives.
  • Coordinate the efforts of designers, editors, illustrators, and videographers involved in creating Humanitarian Advocacy and Diplomacy materials.
  • Provide support in planning and implementing communication-related activities to effectively execute the Humanitarian Advocacy and Diplomacy Strategy, encompassing various initiatives such as information events, press briefings, campaigns, round tables, and parliamentary meetings.
  • Manage social media platforms, including content creation, scheduling, and community engagement; Maintain web page of the Humanitarian Advocacy and Diplomacy Unit.

Additional Tasks:

  • Prepare speaking points and reactive lines for various occasions in collaboration with the Humanitarian Advocacy and Diplomacy Unit.
  • Collaborate with key Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement partners in the EU and beyond to coordinate joint communicational advocacy campaigns.
  • Prepare reports and briefings.

3.Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the line manager

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in communication campaigns and strategy development.
  • Highly computer literate with capability in email, MS Office, and related business and communication tools.
  • Proven social media and networking expertise.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience of coordinating communication advocacy campaign 
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of online content strategy and creation
  • Experience of working with social networks and different media outlets
  • Knowledge of current trends in communication advocacy and digital marketing
  • Ability to craft compelling narratives and messaging to support advocacy efforts
  • Ability to work under pressure and according to tight deadlines
  • Good coordination and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of working with AI tools. 
  • English – Professional Working Proficiency, Ukrainian – Full Professional Proficiency.
