Mission
In Ukraine, Geneva call is launching a multiyear program to answer to the current situation aiming in the short term to build knowledge among all parties involved in the conflict; and over the middle-long term to leverage policy development and enforcement of norms related to the protection of civilians and public infrastructure and negotiating humanitarian access. Overall, Geneva Call aims to develop humanitarian engagement with armed parties and communities as a means to create space for dialogue on the protection of civilians. Geneva Call works in the whole territory of Ukraine.

Role
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Assistant to Project Coordinator will provide effective support on implementation and evaluation of GC activities, including legal, contextual and security reporting and analysis. S/he will also provide coordination and administrative assistance in general project implementation and management.
Through working in close collaboration with members of program team, the Assistant Project Coordinator will have plenty of opportunities to learn about GC’s role and impact and will be exposed to practices and experiences of humanitarian engagement through the implementation of programs on humanitarian norms and principles.
Core responsibilities
Project support
- Support the Project Coordinator (PC) in quality assurance of project implementation and monitoring in accordance with Geneva Call and donor work plans, budget and procedures;
- Support the implementation and development of Geneva Call activities in coordination with PC: draft ToR activities, plan and organise activities, follow-up implementation, develop training module, etc.;
- Assist PC in monitoring and reporting all project expenses as per budgets and available funding.
Security
- Support PC in monitoring the security situation vis-à-vis the project, project partners and Geneva Call, preparing risk assessments and suggesting mitigating measures to the management of Geneva Call in Ukraine and following up on incidents as necessary.
External representation and communication
- Provide material (photos, videos, stories from the field) about the project and timely reports to showcase project outcomes and achievements;
- Support implementation of communications strategy including activities, campaigns, events and other initiatives;
- Assist PC and other expat staff for translation during external and internal meetings as required.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)
- Support PC in evaluation of GC Activities (Kobo tool box, creation of feedback form, leading Focus Group interview).
Main qualifications
Education and experience
- University degree in a relevant field, such as Political or Social Science, International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights, International Law, International Relations, or any related field;
- Master’s degree in IHL and human rights or related areas is preferable;
- Experience in the Ukrainian armed forces or volunteering movements is an asset.
Technical skills
- Strong research, writing and editing skills, including report writing, both in English and Ukrainian;
- IT Tools (MS Office, Excel, email, social media);
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues in humanitarian affairs and capacity for in-depth analysis;
- Good knowledge of International Humanitarian Law and human rights is an asset.
Languages
- English (B2-C1).
- Ukrainian / Russian (B2-C1).
Personal qualities
- Sensitivity to/understanding of political and conflict dynamics;
- Understanding and respect for organizational principles, vision, mission and confidentiality;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Accuracy and reliability, ability to to work under pressure with short deadlines.

Conditions
- Position: Assistant to Project Coordinator
- Type of Contract: Fixed term contract (National position)
- Activity rate: 50%, part-time position (subject to possible change to full-time according to context)
- Work place: Dnipro, Ukraine (subject to change according to context)
- Preferred start date: as soon as possible
