The vision of Norwegian People’s Aid is Solidarity in Action. We are a politically independent membership-based organization working in Norway and more than 30 countries worldwide. Founded in 1939 as the labor movement’s humanitarian solidarity organization, NPA aims to improve people’s living conditions and to create societies that are more just and more democratic. NPA’s international work covers three core areas: Mine Action and Disarmament, Democratisation and Just distribution of power and resources, and Humanitarian Action and Crises response.  NPA is opening a Mine Action and Disarmament program to protect civilians from the threats posed by explosive ordnance (EO) in Ukraine. 

NPA  is looking for a qualified and experienced Field Assistant/Interpreter of the English Language to work in the Kherson region (we are looking in Kryvyi Rih).
Office is in Shyroke, Dnipropetrovsk region, filed is in Kherson region.

Salary: 49 950 UAH (gross)

NPA operates fully by the laws of Ukraine and we expect our candidates (if male) to have up-to-date military documents.

Responsibilities:

  • To provide clear and accurate spoken interpretations between NPA TFMs and non-English speaking persons including NPA national staff, local authorities, informants, security forces, and others;
  • To operate in field environments facilitating the survey and clearance as a focal point for communication;
  • On occasion, provide short written translations from English to Ukrainian, Ukrainian to English, of technical NPA documents, Government letters/documents, or general administrative matters as tasked by NPA’s Operations Manager;
  • Work in the field with the teams as a translator;
  • To keep an accurate record of all translation tasks, their status/delivery, and assignee;
  • To be flexible and prioritize tasks according to their importance;
  • Drives the vehicle for transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of equipment, stores, documents, and any other items as required;
  • Responsible for looking after the allocated duty vehicle including all daily maintenance checks, mileage, and fuel usage records, and ensuring regular and timely services are conducted;
  • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents;
  • Ensure that the driving rules of the Government of Ukraine are adhered to;
  • Report all accidents and incidents involving staff or NPA’s equipment;
  • Meet all NPA’s requirements as outlined in the vehicle policy;
  • Any other duties as tasked by their management/superiors.

Required Qualifications:

Must have:

  • Professional English spoken and written;
  • Valid Driving Licence, category B;
  • Higher education;
  • Native speaker of Ukrainian;
  • Computer literacy.

 Desirable:

  • Education in the English language.

Must have:

  • Former professional translation and interpreting experience.

 Desirable:

  • Professional experience working with humanitarian NGOs
  • Professional experience working in humanitarian mine action projects
  • Experience in translation of training and workshops.

This position involves business trips to the controlled territory of Ukraine.
