Job Purpose
International Alert (IA) has worked in Ukraine since 2015 to promote peacebuilding and integration of context-sensitive approaches into all programs and interventions. We have worked with over 80 civil society organisations and local authorities across Ukraine to support activities that strengthen community cohesion. IA have also supported the development of three multi-disciplinary psychosocial support centres in L’viv, Dnipro, and Kyiv, and six mobile psychosocial support teams along the line of contact, providing services to over 20,000 people.
The Communications Support Officer (CommSO) will play a crucial role in designing, adapting and execution of communication strategies to ensure the success of the project, helping to foster greater awareness of the Conflict Sensitivity HUB’s activities and objectives both within Ukraine and externally. developing communication tools, and creating a platform for information exchange to promote the goals of the Conflict-Sensitivity HUB Project. The CommSO will assist in internal and external communications, support the dissemination of relevant project information, and contribute to ensuring that the project’s conflict-sensitive messaging is clear, effective, and widely understood.
The PO will report directly to the Team Lead, and will work closely with other team members, both in Ukraine and internationally, project experts and researchers, as well as with MEL personnel.
FOP registration is required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Content creation and management
Design and execute a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with the goals of the Conflict-Sensitivity HUB Project.
Support the development of key messaging and communication materials tailored to different stakeholders (Ukrainian local, national, and international NGOs, local authorities and community groups, donors, etc.).
Ensure that all communications are conflict-sensitive, inclusive, and culturally appropriate for the target audience.
Write, edit, and distribute communication materials, including newsletters, reports, success stories, project updates, social media content, and other publications.
Develop and manage content for the social media platforms (e.g., Facebook and Instagram, etc.).
Ensure that project outputs, including documents and multimedia content, are disseminated effectively to relevant audiences.
Collaborate with the monitoring and evaluation team to highlight project impact through case studies and success stories.
Enhance International Alert Ukraine’s visibility through content creation and post development.
In coordination with the Team Lead, assist in the development of crisis communication strategies in case of sensitive issues or conflicts arising during the project’s implementation.
Provide timely and effective communication support during emergencies or high-risk situations to mitigate reputational risks.
Media Relations and External Outreach
Assist in building and maintaining relationships with partner and stakeholders to coordinate media and outreach activities
Establish relationships and coordinate with the local media outlets, journalists, and influencers to promote project activities.
Draft press releases for key project events or announcements.
Coordinate media coverage for project activities, ensuring that media engagement remains sensitive to the conflict context.
Support the organization of press conferences, media events, and public campaigns when applicable.
Assist with research and other project activities as needed
Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with key stakeholders (Ukrainian local, national, and international NGOs, local authorities and community groups, donors, etc.) to gather input, promote engagement, and ensure alignment with the project’s objectives.
Assist in managing communications with donors, partners, and other external stakeholders, keeping them informed of project progress and developments.
Support the Team lead in proposal development
Provide administrative support when required
Monitoring and Reporting
Track and document the effectiveness of communications efforts, providing regular updates on communication activities to the Team Lead.
Contribute to semi-annual and final project reports by compiling communication-related data and insights, as well as to ad hoc assignments.
Support the development of monitoring tools to assess the reach and impact of communication efforts within the context of conflict sensitivity.
Required qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field).
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in communication, media relations, or public relations, preferably within the context of conflict-sensitive, development or humanitarian programming.
Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Ukrainian.
Demonstrated ability to work in a sensitive, politically complex, and conflict-affected environment. Knowledge of conflict-sensitive programming and the socio-political landscape of Ukraine.
Proven experience with digital communication tools and social media management.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
