General Position Summary
Due to the rapid growth in the number of national staff employed by Mercy Corps Ukraine Response, currently approximately 120, likely to grow to over 200 staff in January 2023, Mercy Corps now has an urgent need to employ Finance Assistants who ideally have experience in processing staff monthly payroll. Overseen by the MC Department of Finance and Compliance, MC now has the need to employ 5 Finance Assistants, for at least the next 3 months in working with the Finance staff, principally based in Lviv, Ukraine, to process in a timely manner staff monthly payroll files. It is preferred that applicants have some staff payroll experience, however, this is not essential, a key element is that the successful applicants are methodical and have attention to detail.
Core Job Responsibilities
Accounting Supervision
- Ideally had some exposure to a Finance team in Ukraine and/or Poland,
- Competent in use of excel, calculations, manipulation of PDF files, etc.
- Experience in working in a high volume data processing environment, ie: an Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable Finance team,
- Experience of working in a team environment involving the calculation of financial results, ascertained from a review of a number of inter related documents (ie: timesheets, contract, Addendum to a contract, additional allowances etc.),
- Disposed to working in a team environment and seeking to learn new financial skills
- May wish to explore working in a Finance team and seeking later on to further develop other financial skills,
- Ensure staff monthly pay files are complete (ie: completed and signed time sheet, copy of current contract, relevant Addendum included, supporting detail to support additional expense allowance, complete banking details if new employee etc.),
- Very good communication skills in clearly liaising with staff, to explain, at times, what additional payroll information is required and why, and
- The positions are intended to be full time, based in the Lviv office of the Department of Finance and Compliance, Mercy Corps.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Finance Officer in Ukraine
ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports directly to the Finance Officer, Department of Finance and Compliance, Ukraine Response (Lviv),
WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: Finance Team, and supports the other Departments in Ukraine Response, comprising : Operations, Support, Human Resources, Security and other MC in different Responses – as required.
Knowledge and Experience
- Preferably exposure to a Finance team ie : Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable, accounting experience,
- Good computer skills in MS Office programs, particularly Excel and PDF files,
- Prior experience with high volume calculations – desirable
- Demonstrated experience to detail to ensure that calculations and thus monthly payroll is calculated correctly,
- Very clear and diplomatic customer service skills in explaining to staff specifically what documents are required and what calculations generate the monthly payroll.
Success Factors
The successful candidates will be literate, calm, ideally have some experience to high volume financial transactions and most importantly have a strong attention to detail to ensure that staff monthly payroll is calculated correctly and, importantly, in a timely manner.
