Mission

In Ukraine, Geneva call is launching a multiyear program to answer to the current situation aiming in the short term to build knowledge among all parties involved in the conflict; and over the middle-long term to leverage policy development and enforcement of norms related to the protection of civilians and public infrastructure and negotiating humanitarian access. Overall, Geneva Call aims to develop humanitarian engagement with armed parties and communities as a means to create space for dialogue on the protection of civilians. Geneva Call works in the whole territory of Ukraine.

Geneva Call consists of many diverse nationalities, cultures, languages and opinions. Role

Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Project Assistant contributes to the operations of Geneva Call in Ukraine by supporting the Project Coordinator and program team in Dnipro office in terms of project implementation & management, needs assessment, MEAL reporting, as well as providing administrative support. 

Core responsibilities

Project management and support

  • Contribute to the implementation of Geneva Call activities with the Project Coordinator (PC): draft ToR activities, plan and organise activities, follow-up implementation;
  • Support knowledge dissemination within the region: key political developments, new humanitarian issues as well as new International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law new policies;
  • Support PC in quality assurance of project implementation and monitoring in accordance with Geneva Call and donor work plans, budget and procedures;
  • Contribute to the development/updating of country analysis and needs assessment: security, stakeholders and conflict mapping, conflict qualifications, humanitarian needs and political development in the areas of intervention of Geneva Call;
  • With the support of the Geneva Call Legal and Policy advisors and IHL trainers, deliver training on international humanitarian law for target groups;
  • Assist PC to prepare meeting minutes and field mission reports.

 Administrative support

  • Be the focal point for the Dnipro office concerning administrative tasks;
  • Support the Program team and the Logistician for local procurement and organization of field visits, meetings, awareness-raising campaigns, events, information dissemination workshops, etc. for target groups;
  • Provide translation and interpretations, as required;
  • Assist PC in preparing report on all project expenses of budgets and available funding, including supporting documents; 
  • Report relevant activities to PC to better encode activities reports into KOBO system.

 Engagement & Communications

  • In coordination with the Project Coordinator, engage with local authorities, communities, and organizations regularly;
  • Assist in engaging senior officials and other key stakeholders at the local level;
  • Attend and represent Geneva Call as required at conferences, seminars and other fora of interest to the organization;
  • Provide material (photos, videos, stories from the field) about the project and timely reports to showcase project outcomes and achievements.

 Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)

  • Support the team for MEAL reporting and activities, if relevant, ensuring data quality;
  • Support program field staff in the collection of activity- and output-level monitoring data during activity implementation;
  • Participate in baseline and end line survey studies, as well as any other regular needs assessment to continually provide information and latest developments.

Main qualifications

Education and experience

  • Completed degree of Higher Education in a relevant field, such as Political or Social Science, International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights, International Law, International Relations, or any related field;
  • Relevant professional experience, preferably in any of the following fields: police and military affairs, political and security issues, dialogue facilitation, human rights, fundamental freedoms and minority issues, or reporting and analysis is an asset;
  • Experience in project management, research and report-writing is desirable;
  • Experience in the Ukrainian armed forces or volunteering movements is an asset.

Technical skills

  • Knowledge of the local context;
  • Strong presentational, writing and editing skills, including report writing, both in English and Ukrainian;
  • IT Tools (MS Office, Excel, email, social media); 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues in humanitarian affairs and capacity for in-depth analysis;
  • Good knowledge of International Humanitarian Law and human rights is an asset.

 Languages

  • English (B2-C1).
  • Ukrainian / Russian (B2-C1).

 Personal qualities

  • Understanding and respect for organizational principles, vision, mission and confidentiality;
  • Strong logic and organizational skills, flexibility and adaptability to change;
  • Ability to take responsibility, proactive and efficient functioning, strong communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a team and multicultural environment; 
  • Accuracy and reliability, ability to meet deadlines under pressure.

The employee will be accountable for the responsibilities and the competencies, in accordance with the GC Performance Management p. The following documents will be used for performance reviews:

Conditions

  • Position : Project Assistant
  • Type of Contract: Fixed term contract (National position)
  • Activity rate: 100%, full-time position
  • Work place: Dnipro, Ukraine (subject to change according to context)
  • Preferred start date: as soon as possible
