Competitive Economy Program

Chemonics International, a global consulting and international development firm, seeks a Trade and Export Consulting Expert for the USAID-funded Competitive Economy Program. This five-year program encourages startup businesses and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), increases domestic market competition, and supports the competitiveness of Ukrainian firms in international markets. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

The Trade and Export Consulting Expert will support the implementation of a broad array of activities related to capacity building and to promoting the effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability of Government of Ukraine (GOU) and other relevant Ukrainian organizations related to export promotion. This includes assisting the GOU to refine its approach to export promotion; providing technical assistance and training to help relevant GOU entities and business support organizations (BSOs) to provide meaningful assistance to SMEs related to exports; analyzing Ukraine’s progress toward diversifying its exports and export markets; and supporting the development of a sustainable system for monitoring the impact and effectiveness of its export promotion efforts. The Trade and Export Consulting Expert will also support SMEs, BSOs, the GOU, or other market actors with export promotion consulting activities, which may include export readiness diagnostics, research / analysis export markets, preparation for trade missions and business-to-business (B2B) events, or identification of trade partners. This is a long-term position based in Kyiv, Ukraine.

The Trade and Export Consulting Expert should have the following experience and qualifications:

• University degree in economics, business administration, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
• At least three years of relevant work experience in Ukraine or relevant country context, with demonstrated increasing responsibilities and knowledge. Experience with international organizations or NGOs preferred. Former experience with USAID development programs is highly preferred.
• Prior experience providing consulting services and technical assistance for export promotion offices within government settings, including the development of export marketing and services for small and medium enterprises.
• Demonstrated professional excellence and strong communication skills.
• Effective cross-cultural interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to resolve higher level work and issues with senior host-country counterparts, donor representatives, and senior-level USAID staff.
• Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
• Fluency in English and Ukrainian required.
