Deloitte is seeking qualified candidates to serve as the short-term  Consultant on Conducting a Training Course on Empathy in Practice of Health Care Workers in support of the USAID/Ukaid Health Reform Support (HRS). The position is part-time and will be based in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Period of Performance: November 2021 – February 2022 with possible extension

Level of effort: 12  days

Project Background and Summary:

The purpose of the USAID/UKAID Health Reform Support is to support a transparent, accountable, and effective health care system that is capable of meeting the health needs of the Ukrainian people. Advancing health sector reforms, enhancing transparency, and tackling corruption will reduce out-of-pocket payments and improve access and availability of high quality, evidence-based health care services for Ukrainians. Elimination of corruption is a cross-cutting theme across all objectives to be achieved by this activity, which include:

  1. Improve health sector governance.
  2. Support the transformation of the healthcare financing model.
  3. Strengthen the health workforce.
  4. Enhance transparency, accountability, and responsiveness of the health care system.
  5. Improve service delivery system at all levels.

Objective:

Consultant on Conducting a Training Course on Empathy in Practice of Health Care Workers will work under Project’s Objective 3. Strengthen the health workforce and provide support in conducting the Training course on Empathy in the work of health care providers. The course may be implemented both offline and online, depending on quarantine restrictions.

Responsibilities:

The consultant is expected to perform the following tasks:

  • In collaboration with the co-trainer finalize the structure and the content of the previously developed course on Empathy in Practice of Health Care Workers identifying training topics and methods of training;
  • Adapt and redesign the training course to fit the online format;
  • Finalize the developed and add new (upon need) educational materials that include presentations, tasks for course participants, cases for analysis, etc.
  • Develop cooperation with stakeholders interested in supporting the activity;
  • Conduct training for the target group according to the Project Workplan;
  • Take into consideration the feedback from participants obtained during the training for adjusting the content and format of the training course following the course completion;
  • Participate in working meetings of the Project team on a regular basis.

The content of the course is expected to cover the following topics:

  • Empathy in the practice of health care providers and person-oriented approach in health care;
  • Communication with patients, building trust, maintaining confidentiality;
  • Work with difficult patients, communication in conflict situations;
  • Interactions with patients in crisis, in time of grief;
  • Tolerance in health care providers practice, work with patients from vulnerable groups.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public health, medicine, sociology, psychology, or other related areas.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training sessions/educational events  
  • Experience in working with health workers community, in particular conducting training sessions or similar events for medical workers that would cover topics of doctor-patient communication, work with patients from vulnerable groups, tolerance and inclusion, discrimination and stigma, mental health and psychological wellbeing or other related topics)
  • Experience in developing training materials, guidance or other learning materials
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Excellent planning and time management skills
  • No less than two years of experience working with USAID projects or other projects of technical assistance will be an asset.
