Freelance Translator for Learning, Acting and Building for Rehabilitation Systems (ReLAB-HS) Activity in Україна

General Summary:

Momentum Wheels for Humanity (MWH) is seeking candidates for a Freelance Translator in Ukraine for the USAID-funded project, Learning, Acting, and Building for Rehabilitation in Health Systems (ReLAB-HS) activity.

About ReLAB-HS

Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), ReLAB-HS is a global project that will support the development of health systems that are responsive to the growing needs for rehabilitation within populations. It seeks to co-design and implement innovative, comprehensive, cost-effective interventions that strengthen health systems for the provision of rehabilitation, including assistive technology. ReLAB-HS will focus on integrating rehabilitation and assistive technology services across all levels of care within health systems. The ReLAB-HS consortium comprises six international partners with expertise in health systems, implementation science, and delivery innovations.

The five-year program will work globally and initially concentrate on a number of low- and middle-income countries affected by conflict, with varying levels of rehabilitation needs and infrastructure. ReLAB-HS presents a genuine opportunity to provide real improvements in the quality of life, functionality, and independence for many people through simple interventions at the primary care level, and the use of technology to bring rehabilitation further into community settings. 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The Freelance Translator would be responsible for performing the following primary tasks:

Translation and Interpretation

• Translate documents related to rehabilitation and assistive technology from Ukrainian to English and vice versa
• Use support materials such as tools, glossaries, and reference materials effectively
• Establish and maintain a record of appropriate technical translation terminology through appropriate research and consultation
• Provide simultaneous interpretation during online and offline meetings, workshops, and other events
• Provide consecutive interpretation during online and offline meetings, workshops, and other events
• Travel with ReLAB HS staff to the field for interpretation and other assistance as needed

Proofreading

• Proofread letters, documents, and other project materials
• Contribute to the maintenance of ReLAB-HS glossaries
• Ensure consistency of tone, syntax, and style

Revision

• Revise translations into Ukrainian or English of letters, documents, and other ReLAB-HS materials produced by external translators and other members of the team
• Conduct necessary research on meaning and terminology to support revision, including raising translation queries to authors and external experts and/or answering translator queries as needed
• Take notes at meetings; take and transcribe from dictation, recordings, and handwritten drafts

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

• Fluency in Ukrainian, Russian, and English
• At least two years of formal professional experience providing translation and interpretation services on international technical assistance projects
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent written organization and drafting skills
• Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing
• Detail-oriented with good coordination and prioritization skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners and stakeholders
• Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities
• Self-motivated; ability to work with tight deadlines
• Good computer skills with practical experience using Microsoft, Outlook, DropBox, infographic presentations, and other computer applications

Preferred Qualifications:

• Translation experience in rehabilitation or medical environment is highly desired
